New NIH policy on consideration of sex as a biological variable, once approved by the Office of Budget and Management, will require investigators to include accounting for sex as a biological variable in the 'research strategy' section of the application.

The IACUC recently revised the rodent genotyping guidelines. All rodent users who perform genotyping must become familiar with the revised guidelines.

During the week of Feb. 27, 2017, the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (USDA) conducted a four-day focused inspection of animal research laboratory spaces at the University of Pittsburgh, apparently in response to allegations and a video provided to the department.

Due to the holiday break, the IACUC Office will be closed Thursday, November 23 and Friday, November 24. Applications sent in during this period will not be processed until the University reopens on November 27.
